Fair 2010: Vorwerk Carpets and Hadi Teherani: Carpet tiles reconceived
The innovative Vorwerk carpet-tile collection “FreeSCALE by Hadi
Teherani” opens up new horizons in interior design. Whether in form,
function or design, the collection breaks with the convention of standard
shapes for tiles by presenting new formats in exciting, freely scaled shapes,
and completely without right angles.
The highly diversified range of forms, colours and materials within
FreeSCALE results in a modular system for countless creative tilings in
dimensions for textile floor coverings that had been unknown until now.
With SCALE and FreeSCALE, Vorwerk is bringing the carpet tile back into
the mind’s eye of architects and interior designers once again.
Elements for high-quality interior design
FreeSCALE offers the 3 asymmetric basic shapes Crystal, Mesh and
Partition. In turn, each of these is available in 3 different high-grade tufted
products: as a tufted loop, a tufted velours and a tufted frisé. Consequently,
each of the basic tile shapes is already being presented in 3 different looks.
The offer is supplemented by 16 discreet shades in Cold, Neutral and
Warm from the spectrum of grey, and in Violet, Blue, Petrol and Olive from
the world of colours, and all with an intimate correlation to architecture.
One-of-a-kinds for the floor: Discover new compositions
Installed as a plain hue, the basic shapes Crystal, Mesh or Partition alone
result in an out-of-the-ordinary design, yet without looking monochrome. If
the textile flooring is composed of a mixture of different-coloured tiles,
completely new patterns arise. Possibilities for countless new images on
the floor emerge. The experimentation process knows no bounds thereby,
and: each floor becomes a one-of-its-kind.
Revolution on the floor
With FreeSCALE from Vorwerk, not only floor patterns can be chosen
freely. Whereas working with carpet tiles was done by staying parallel to
the wall edge until now – the same as with carpet from a roll – with
FreeSCALE an “open form” can be laid: Depending on the tile’s respective
freely scaled shape, the contour of the entire textile floor covering can now
be designed “freestyle”. Keeping a room’s floor plan and individual tastes in
mind, what emerges could be anything from thrilling, asymmetric forms all
the way to an integration of floor/wall solutions. FreeSCALE thus fits in
excellently in modern architectural structures, too. Especially when these
have been built without right angles. A tiling made of FreeSCALE tiles can
support the spatial feel of an area, or it can break up rectangular or squareshaped
floor plans. Partitioning and functional zones in the large, open
spaces of lobbies and lounges at hotels and offices can be accented or
totally redefined. As a result FreeSCALE is able to offer interesting options
for corporate solutions as well.
FreeScale fitted with ecological TEXtiles technology
The exclusive Vorwerk collections SCALE and FreeSCALE by Hadi
Teherani are the first design carpet-tile collections developed on the basis
of the new Vorwerk TEXtiles technology. TEXtiles technology represents an
innovative coating process geared towards environmental compatibility that
is able to replace the PVC or bitumen coatings which had been commonly
used for tiles before. The innovation is a new type of environmentally
friendly, synthetic secondary backing made of strongly needled and
calendered polyester fabric which is fully recyclable. In addition, these tile
products are manufactured with a particular focus on conserving resources
and environmental suitability. They are comprised of a 60% share of
recycled material while utilising carbon-neutral energy for their production.
Above and beyond these factors, TEXtiles provide a definite plus point for
health. They have been awarded the seal “suitable for those suffering from
allergies” issued by the TÜV-Nord (North German Technical Certification
Association), and are recommended by the German Allergy and Asthma
Association (DAAB) due to their verified properties in reducing fine dust
particles.
